Taxi or private transfer: compare like for like
| Decision point | Airport taxi | Prebooked private transfer |
|---|---|---|
| Price basis | Published taxi zone fare plus applicable extras; confirm the total before loading. | Written quote for the specified route, vehicle, passengers and luggage. |
| Pickup | Use the terminal taxi area; a specific vehicle and waiting time are not promised here. | Obtain the meeting point, contact number, waiting allowance and flight-delay policy. |
| Child seats and access | Ask whether the required seat or adapted vehicle is available before travelling. | Request the exact equipment in advance and obtain explicit confirmation. |
| Extra stops | Agree the stop and any waiting charge before setting off. | Include shopping, additional hotel stops and waiting time in the accepted itinerary. |
Which option should you choose?
Consider a taxi for a straightforward journey when your party and bags fit an available vehicle and you are comfortable confirming the fare on arrival. Consider a prebooked private transfer when vehicle size, child seats, mobility needs, separate hotel entrances or a planned stop matter. Neither label alone guarantees a better vehicle, shorter wait or cheaper trip. The useful comparison is the complete service you can actually confirm.
What does the airport currently publish for taxi fares?
Checked on 19 October 2026, LPIA lists Cable Beach at USD 29, downtown at USD 36 and Paradise Island at USD 45, with an additional USD 2 bridge toll for Paradise Island. Its tariff is based on two passengers and lists USD 5 per additional passenger. Luggage supplements apply, so these zone figures are not a universal all-inclusive hotel quote. Check the linked airport tariff and confirm the applicable amount before boarding.
A worked example for Paradise Island
For four fare-paying passengers, the published Paradise Island reference gives USD 45 plus two additional passengers at USD 5 each and the USD 2 bridge toll: USD 57 before applicable luggage supplements or other agreed services. This is an illustration of the published tariff, not a reservation or guaranteed charge. Ask for the full amount for your actual bags and exact hotel. A private quote should identify the same journey before you compare it with this example.
Why a private-transfer price can be higher
A private supplier may price advance coordination, a specified vehicle category, agreed waiting or additional equipment into its offer. Inclusions vary; do not assume that flight monitoring, unlimited waiting, refreshments, child seats or a shopping stop are included. This website displays private-transfer planning estimates, which are separate from the airport taxi tariff. Use our current calculator and methodology, then obtain a written, trip-specific quote. An enquiry does not confirm a booking or take payment.
Atlantis: name the accommodation, not just the resort
For a family staying at The Reef at Atlantis, the receiving address, stroller and suitcase count are more useful than the word Atlantis alone. The Royal at Atlantis, The Coral at Atlantis, The Cove at Atlantis, The Reef at Atlantis and Harborside Resort at Atlantis have distinct receiving arrangements. Atlantis also offers its own airport transport booking options, subject to availability. Check your room package and compare those options before paying for a second service.
Baha Mar and Cable Beach: compare the exact entrance
A solo traveller with light luggage may favour a taxi, while a larger party may need a vehicle arranged in advance. For Baha Mar, specify Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, SLS Baha Mar or Rosewood Baha Mar. Baha Mar publishes separate private-transport reservation links for these hotels. The airport's Cable Beach zone reference is not proof that every property, vehicle or extra service has the same final charge; confirm the named entrance and full fare.
Children, bulky luggage and adapted vehicles
Send the number and ages of children, the required seat type, suitcase sizes, stroller and any mobility equipment with your request. Ask whether a wheelchair must remain occupied, whether step-free boarding is required and whether equipment dimensions fit. A VIP label does not establish wheelchair access or child-seat suitability. Our Standard calculator allows up to three passengers and VIP up to four, both subject to luggage; larger parties or adapted vehicles require a custom quote.
Arrival delays, payment and the return trip
Before accepting a private quote, ask when waiting starts, how flight changes are handled, how to contact the driver and what happens after the waiting allowance ends. For either option, confirm currency, payment method, taxes, tolls, luggage supplements and cancellation terms. Plan the return journey separately using your airline's reporting requirement and a realistic traffic margin. An arrival transfer does not automatically include a return pickup or priority airport processing.
Your booking checklist
Compare offers with the same local date, flight number, direction, hotel entrance, passenger count, luggage and equipment requirements. Record the total payable amount, inclusions, extra-stop and waiting charges, payment method and cancellation rules. Keep the confirmed meeting instructions and provider contact available offline. Choose the offer whose documented service matches your trip; the lowest headline price is only useful when it covers everything you need.
