Confirm the correct ferry terminal
For a journey from Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS) to a ferry, start with the operator and the actual passenger check-in point on your booking. Bahamas Ferries publishes its location as Potter’s Cay Dock, Western End, Nassau. Reconfirm where passengers should report for your sailing before passing the address to a road transport provider. A request for a car to the harbour, or to an island hotel, leaves too much unresolved. This article concerns the Nassau road leg to a confirmed ferry departure, not a through-ticket to another island.
Potter’s Cay is not Nassau Cruise Port or Palm Cay
Potter’s Cay, Nassau Cruise Port and Palm Cay are different waterfront locations. Other ferry, excursion or charter operators may use different meeting points, so do not substitute a terminal from an unrelated trip. Ask for the operator's current passenger instructions and the permitted vehicle drop-off point. Paradise Island itself is road connected to New Providence and does not require a ferry for a normal airport-to-hotel transfer. Harbour Island and other separated islands require an onward sea or air journey; an airport car does not drive across to them.
Check that you have a passenger sailing
A destination appearing in an island directory or freight network does not establish a passenger departure on your travel date. If your confirmed itinerary is for Spanish Wells or Harbour Island, check the precise destination, operating date, boarding instructions and any onward arrangements on arrival. Do not infer a daily service or a particular departure time from an old timetable. Ask the ferry operator to resolve differences between general website information and your booking before arranging the airport pickup.
Work backwards from ferry check-in
Bahamas Ferries currently advises check-in one hour before sailing and estimates the drive from NAS to its Potter’s Cay terminal at 45 minutes to one hour, depending on traffic. Those are planning references reviewed on the date above, not a promise that your connection works. Use the current reporting instructions for your actual sailing. First establish when you need to be at the passenger check-in point, then allow for the road journey and a suitable margin. A zone-wide road estimate elsewhere on this website is not a complete flight-to-ferry connection time.
Landing is not the time you can leave the airport
Add the time needed for the applicable arrival formalities, checked-bag collection, reaching the agreed vehicle meeting point and loading passengers and luggage. Flight arrival times can change, and none of these steps has a guaranteed duration. For planning, work backwards in this order: ferry check-in deadline, road journey and traffic margin, airport pickup and loading, then airport arrival processing. Comparing only the scheduled landing time with the ferry departure leaves out the steps that determine whether you can actually reach check-in.
When to consider arriving the previous day
If the plan works only when the aircraft lands exactly on schedule, bags arrive immediately and the road is clear, ask whether a previous-day arrival and overnight stay would be more practical. Check the available sailings and accommodation before changing anything. No single minimum connection time in this article can account for every flight, passenger or marine condition. A faster car cannot remove immigration, baggage or ferry check-in requirements. Keep the hotel-to-terminal journey distinct from an airport pickup if you decide to stay overnight.
Arrange the road transfer separately
Give the transport provider your flight number, Nassau local arrival date, ferry operator, sailing date, passenger check-in time and exact terminal instructions. Ask whether the proposed road journey is workable before accepting it. Agree the permitted drop-off point, complete fare, waiting allowance and what happens if the flight changes. An airport transfer quote does not include a ferry ticket or transport on the destination island unless the written agreement expressly says so. The Eastern Road and ferry-connections page is a starting point for the Nassau road segment, not confirmation of a particular terminal ride.
Match luggage to both the vehicle and the ferry
Count all passengers, including children, and describe suitcases, strollers and oversized items before the vehicle is agreed. Our regular calculator covers up to three Standard passengers or four VIP passengers, both subject to luggage; larger parties need a custom quote. Separately check the ferry operator's current baggage allowance, handling requirements and charges. Acceptance in a car does not mean an item is accepted as passenger luggage on the vessel. Child-seat or accessibility needs also require specific confirmation rather than an assumption based on the vehicle category.
A message template for the road-transfer request
We arrive at NAS on [flight number] on [Nassau local date and time]. Our ferry operator is [operator], sailing to [destination] on [date]. We must report for passenger check-in at [time] at [confirmed terminal and meeting point]. We are [passengers] with [luggage and special requirements]. Please review the road journey and confirm the pickup instructions, drop-off point, complete fare, waiting terms and flight-change procedure. Please identify any part of the itinerary you cannot confirm; we will arrange the ferry and onward island transport separately.
Keep a contingency for flight or sailing changes
If the flight is delayed, inform both your confirmed road provider and the ferry operator promptly. Ask the ferry operator whether the ticket can be changed and what reporting or cancellation conditions apply to your booking. A road provider cannot hold a separate vessel or guarantee reimbursement for a missed sailing. Weather or operational changes can also alter the sea journey even when the flight is on time. Keep the latest confirmations and contact details available offline, and do not treat a general timetable as evidence that your particular sailing is operating.
Plan the return connection independently
For a ferry-to-airport journey, confirm the actual Nassau arrival point and how passengers and bags will reach the permitted vehicle meeting location. Work from the airline's current airport reporting requirement, adding the road journey, unloading and a suitable disruption margin. Do not simply reverse the outbound timetable. A late vessel can affect a separately booked flight, so discuss an earlier return or overnight stay if the plan has little flexibility. Obtain written acceptance of any revised road pickup before relying on it.
Airport-to-ferry connection questions
Does the airport transfer include my ferry ticket?
Treat them as separate bookings unless your written agreement explicitly includes both. Confirm the ferry ticket, Nassau road journey and any onward island transport with the parties responsible for each service.
Can I connect to a ferry on the day my flight lands?
That depends on your actual flight, arrival processing, luggage, road conditions and the sailing's current check-in requirement. Confirm the plan with the responsible providers; this article gives no guaranteed connection time.
Is Potter’s Cay the same place as Nassau Cruise Port?
No. They are different waterfront locations. Use the passenger terminal and current meeting instructions supplied by your actual ferry operator rather than a generic harbour or cruise-port address.
Plan your Nassau road transfer with the Eastern Road and ferry-connections guide. Our operations will start in January 2027; booking and WhatsApp contact are currently paused. For an existing journey, use your confirmed transport provider and ferry operator to agree the arrangements.
