Understand the Sunflower programme at NAS
Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), also known as LPIA, participates in the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower programme. The lanyard gives airport staff a discreet indication that a traveller with a non-visible disability may need more time, understanding or assistance. A traveller may be walking independently and still have support requirements. The purpose of this guide is to help you separate airport arrangements from the onward road journey, not to assume that everyone wearing the Sunflower needs the same assistance.
Check the airport's current request instructions
LPIA's dedicated Sunflower information describes requesting a lanyard in advance from the airport and says medical proof is not required for that request. Check the airport's current instructions and agree the relevant collection arrangement directly with LPIA. Do not assume an airport request places a lanyard in a driver's car or reserves airline assistance. If you need assistance with the flight or movement through the airport, also discuss the actual arrangements with the operating airline. Keep the contact and confirmation for each responsible service available when travelling.
A lanyard does not arrange every part of the journey
LPIA explicitly explains that wearing the Sunflower does not provide security fast-tracking. It should not be treated as a reserved escort, a car booking or confirmation that a particular road provider offers specialist support. Decide what would help your journey, then ask the responsible parties what they can provide. Airport participation does not establish that NAS Airport Transfer is a Sunflower member or that a driver has specialist training. If another service is essential to your trip, obtain its own confirmation rather than relying on the symbol to arrange it automatically.
Describe the support needed for the road pickup
For a future transport enquiry, describe the practical arrangements you want the provider to assess. You might ask for written meeting directions, one nominated contact, time to understand instructions or an agreed companion handover. These are requests to discuss, not published inclusions or guarantees. Tell the provider which arrangements are essential before accepting the journey, and ask for a clear answer about what is possible. A private-car label alone does not establish a quiet environment, assistance inside the terminal or continuous supervision.
Agree communication and the passenger handover
Identify who receives the meeting instructions and who communicates if the flight or arrival process changes. Where a companion is involved, agree who stays with the traveller and who coordinates the car. Confirm the actual meeting point, the permitted stopping point and the transition from airport assistance to the road provider. Do not assume an airline assistant will accompany a passenger to a vehicle or that a driver will enter a controlled area. Save the agreed directions offline and share them with the people responsible for the journey. If an arrangement remains unclear, resolve it before treating the pickup as settled.
Use a request focused on practical needs
Prepare a message such as: We arrive at NAS on [operating flight and Nassau local date], travelling to [exact accommodation]. Our party has [passengers and luggage]. Please assess [communication or handover request]. Our nominated contact is [name and agreed contact method], and [companion arrangement] applies. Can you confirm the meeting procedure, what support is available, the vehicle, complete fare and waiting terms? Explain the practical need without placing unnecessary diagnoses or medical records in general booking notes. The provider's written acceptance should identify the agreed arrangements; a note sent with an enquiry is not itself confirmation.
Confirm vehicle needs, changes and the return journey
Non-visible disabilities and adapted-vehicle requirements are different considerations, and a traveller may have either or both. If a wheelchair-adapted vehicle is also needed, request that configuration separately. Give the full passenger and luggage inventory and any relevant equipment details. The ordinary Standard and VIP estimates do not establish specialist assistance or an adapted vehicle. Also confirm where the car may stop at the exact hotel or residence and who receives the party there. A hotel name alone does not complete the arrival handover.
Keep one agreed plan when the arrival changes
Landing time is not the time you are ready to board the car. Complete the applicable arrival procedures and follow the instructions agreed for your flight. Ask in advance when waiting begins and what to do if baggage, a document query or another issue delays you. If the original handover no longer works, contact the confirmed provider and the other responsible parties for revised arrangements. Neither the Sunflower nor a private transfer establishes unlimited waiting. Avoid changing terminals or following an unverified person to another vehicle without confirming the new plan with your accepted provider.
Confirm the return as its own handover
Before a departure journey, reconfirm the accommodation pickup point, Nassau local date, departing flight, passengers, luggage and any agreed communication or companion arrangements. Check airport and airline assistance independently for that flight. A completed arrival journey does not reserve the return car or guarantee the same people will provide assistance. Work from the airline's current airport reporting instructions when agreeing pickup time. Keep the latest road and airport arrangements together so each person knows which part of the journey they are responsible for. This guide does not provide medical advice or replace the traveller's own support arrangements.
Sunflower and Nassau Airport transfer questions
Does a Sunflower lanyard confirm assistance during my airport transfer?
No. LPIA's participation does not reserve a road vehicle or establish a private provider's support capabilities. Discuss your practical requirements with the actual provider and obtain separate acceptance of the journey and the arrangements you need.
Do I need an adapted vehicle because I use the Sunflower?
Not necessarily. The symbol does not describe a particular vehicle configuration. Confirm the traveller's actual needs; if a wheelchair-adapted vehicle is also required, request it specifically rather than assuming an ordinary car or SUV is suitable.
Use the pickup guide to prepare your flight, exact destination, passengers, luggage and practical handover requests. Our operations will start in January 2027; booking and WhatsApp contact are currently paused. This article does not confirm specialist support at launch. For an existing reservation, contact the road provider, airport or airline responsible for that part of the journey directly.
